Google Philippines Office

is it true that Googleis cooking up an office here in the Philippines - this will really be good news for IT PINOYs (if this is not an April Fools joke) :)

on march30, Google announced its newest Southeast Asia representative office in Jakarta headed by Rudy Ramawy.  then job openings for the Philippines were also spotted in Google Singapore’s jobs page (e.g. Country Sales Manager, Account Strategist, Agency Relationship Manager, Communications Manager and Head of Marketing).

IT PINOYs Win in Facebook Mobile Hack - Singapore

Philippines is truly making headway in the social media apps development, as a group of PINOYprogrammers recently won in the Facebook Mobile Hack held in Singapore.

besting other Asian countries, Jason Sia, Mico Ignacio, Melvin Fetalvero and Josh Basarte of, took the main prize in the Best Mobile + Open Graph category, via its "Hear Me" application, which lets uses post audio notes on their Facebook home page.

"I dont think we won because of what we came up with in four hours, but because of what Hear Me can become in the hands of other Facebook users and the developer community," said Chikka team lead Melvin Fetalvero.

De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde (CSB) Wins Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 (Manila Leg)

the De La Salle - College of Benilde (CSB) wins the this year's  Microsoft Imagine Cup, via designing a software platform that makes classroom learning more engaging for children suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Team Divided by Zero, a group of 3rd year Information Systems students - Mark Christian Bautista, Camille Ann Domingo and Jason Mari Josol, designed an application that would allow special education teachers to craft and modify interactive games for autistic children as they grow.

“The problem we saw is that most of [such kinds] of applications [for autistic children] are very expensive, very limited and very static,” Josol said.

Linkedin Reaches 1 Million Members in the Philippines

Linkedin, the number one networking site for professionals finally reached one million members in the Philippines. 

considered more as a professional networking site than a social media platform, Linkedinboasts of a database of people of "competitive intelligence" and prospective employers.

however with a country tagged as the "Social Networking Capital of the World" and ranks 8th with the most number of Facebook users (around 27 million Pinoy Facebook users in 2011 and 95% spends more time in Facebook than in any other sites), Linkedinreally faces a tough competition. Hence, the one million members is quite very small.
